How to put Networking to work for you!

PUT NETWORKING TO WORK FOR YOU

Success is about establishing and maintaining relationships.  Effective networking is essential to advance your career, build your business, or find new employment

Harvey MacKay, author of Dig Your Well Before You are Thirsty, gives an essence of building an effective network.  MacKay say's it's a lifetime of:

  1. Caring about people.

  2. Learning about them.
  3. Asking what you can do for someone else.

According to MacKay, networking is a PROCESS that includes deciding to network and avoiding pitfalls.  It's a skill anyone can learn and master.

Remember:  MacKay's approach places the focus of networking on serving other people and genuinely caring about them.  Many networkers believe networking is about collecting business cards and forcing themselves upon others.  This approach doesn't work.  An old adage applies here:  "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."   In today's economy you never know when you might need a friend.
